The rule that matters falls straight out of the table: pick volatility to suit the budget, not the mood. A high-variance game played on a small balance is a short session that ends before the game does the thing it is famous for, and that ending is the expected one, not bad luck.

The progressive jackpot
A progressive jackpot is fed by a slice of every qualifying spin and paid at random rather than by a combination of symbols. Two things decide whether it concerns you at all.
The first is the minimum bet: below it a spin does not enter the draw, so a session played at a lower stake is not playing for the jackpot no matter which game it is on.
